Medical professionals recognize the real mental problem of depression. It's often a matter of years, or at least months, to control or cure it. Each year, millions of people come to the realization that they suffer from depression. Only about a third of them will seek treatment, and that makes it worse. Because depression is considered a mental affliction, many sufferers shy away from seeking help from a doctor. Instead of being considered mentally ill, people try to beat depression themselves. Depression doesn't just stop, and it's a lot more common than people think.
So, what causes depression? There are many factors to consider, so the answer isn't simple. The list is quite long. Let's list a few of the contributing factors to depression. A chemical imbalance is widely considered to be the main cause for depression. This may be the case, but what causes that imbalance? The causes can be genetic, mental or even come from the environment. There are those inflicted that never really determine what spurned their depression. If diagnosis of another serious medical condition happens, sometimes people become depressed.
Another cause of depression can be the emotional pain felt after losing a loved one. In many cases the loss can be very traumatic. Depression often follows sexual or physical abuse, or emotional attacks. When people abuse drugs and/or alcohol the result is often depression. The mental state of a human can be very fragile depending on their environment and the life events that they have been exposed too. In many cases depression is passed on genetically. Those afflicted have a family history of the disease . There are even some prescribed medications that can bring on depression. Studies and tests show a casual relation between many high blood pressure medications and depression.
Depression can result from stress. Stress can derive from many different areas in our life. Some of that stress can even be related to positive events in our lives such as promotions, graduation or moving into a new house. In these cases it's not the good event causing stress, but fear of the unknown and/or fear of ability to deserve or maintain the positive element. Arguments with family members, disputes with business clients can both cause stress. There are a great number of people who are stressed from simply trying to perform their jobs to satisfaction and trying to support their families from week to week. Knowing is half the battle as you need to determine the the symptoms of depression. Seek medical help if you or a loved one suffer from depression.
